I need a tutorial that describes how to create sticky elbows and knees like those found on the Andy rig. Has anyone ran across anything on the topic? I think I get the idea of how this might be accomplished but I would like to see how other people are doing it.
To clarify, I am looking for an "ik like" knee, and elbow. If the character puts an elbow on a table the elbow can be locked in place.

You can do it a few ways.

In the past, I did an ik from the elbow to the clavicle. Hence having a 2 chain ik you can work with. You don't have a lot of movement, but in a way, it's realistic.

    OR

You can stretch the bicep (uparm) and have the elbow pinned.

What you do after (IK, FK, etc) for the forearm is up to you, you can do whatever.

    Hope that helps

    Thanks Javier,
The IK solution seems to be the most common answer. I am going to go ahead and give that a try unless someone else has any other ideas.

The knee is harder 'cause you have a lot less to work with.

I do remember doing an fake knee lock though... It was a long time ago. I think I was moving the hips pivot point to the knee or something like that

i set it up with distance nodes like Schleifer's Animator Friendly Rigging.
Have a distance node between the top and elbow, and another one between elbow and bottom.
Then hook up the distance to the translation of joint respectively.
